I know there was a time I believed player evaluation, certainly of collegians, often of professionals, could be done using data -- what Law would call 'scouting the stat line.' I know now I was wrong about that, that the data can tell you the what, but that you need eyes on the player, as many as possible, to figure out the why. In this era of constant improvement, and an array of tools we couldn’t imagine two decades ago, scouts are going to identify players who have both a growth mindset and the skills to turn that into performance."
